I'm seeking a data analyst to help with processing and analyzing financial data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Your main objective will be to identify significant patterns and trends within the provided financial data.
- I need you to provide a comprehensive, written analysis of these patterns, along with the necessary context for a non-specialist to understand.
Ideal Candidate:
- Proficient in financial data analysis.
- Previous experience in identifying financial trends and patterns.
- Skilled enough to produce comprehensive written reports.
- Familiar with common tools used for financial data analysis.
This case will measure your analytical skills, your ability to use Excel/Google Sheets and also give you a glimpse of what some of the job responsibilities look like.
Situation:
"We are working with a BROKER from which we display content (a.k.a. rental cars) and our customers can book them. The booking process is as follows:
* Customer books the car on our app. We charge the customer and create a record in the database (see sheet Source of Truth - Database)"
* We send our corporate credit card to the BROKER and they charge our credit card (see sheet Source of Truth - Bank)
Task:
You are asked to match the records in the database (Source of Truth - Database) with the records from the bank. There might be discrepancies and part of the job is to find those discrepancies.
Deliverables:
A: Identify if the records from bank and database are matching
B: Identify the discrepancies in the data
C: State your assumptions
D: We are a tech company and this is not a sustainable process. What are your suggestions on improving this process?
Guidelines:
A: Show your work - we'd like to see how you are using Google Sheets and other tools
B: Feel free to use any AI tool if you think it'd help
C: State your assumptions - we don't expect you to understand all that is going on but make reasonable assumptions and state them
D: Source of Truth - Bank is a fairly straight forward sheet with one record each time BROKER (economybookings) charged us
E: Source of Truth - Database shows all of the reservations. Don't worry about status column. Deposit is the amount we collect at time of booking, remainder is what they pay at the counter and total is the total price of the car. For this exericse, you will reconcile deposit amounts. Please note there is also currency column. Deposit is of that currency
